Ricefield Resort

Set across a 4,400 m² site in Cambodia, Ricefield Resort is a study in climate-responsive hospitality, balancing traditional tropical building methods with clean, contemporary geometry.

The master plan organically disperses a mix of private bungalows and double bedrooms throughout the landscape. Rather than clearing the terrain, each unit is carefully positioned in between existing fruit trees, such as mango and other local trees, and rotated in different orientations. This ensures optimal sun shading, natural wind flow, privacy, and unblocked views for every guest while keeping the units naturally cool.

At the heart of the resort lies the main open-air pavilion, designed to hover seamlessly over an elevated swimming pool. Framed by lush banana trees, this central social space acts as a quiet vantage point looking outward over adjacent rice fields, offering uninterrupted views of the sunset.

The design blends local traditions with modern style. Inspired by the pitched shapes of Cambodian pagodas and traditional roofs, the buildings use local thatch craft to keep interiors cool, encourage natural airflow, and fit seamlessly into the surrounding environment
